When it comes to adoption, there are many different options available to you. The three most common types of adoption include agency placements, private adoption and international adoptions. Adopting a child is a huge, life-changing event, and one that needs careful thought and consideration. It’s important that you are familiar with the different types of adoption as well as what is involved with each.

Private Adoption

While adoption agencies charge a flat rate, the price of private adoption is based on each individual case. This often works out to be less than agencies’ flat rate, which have to cover legal work, case worker fees and birth mother fees. In a private adoption there may be no birth mother fees and probably no case worker fees. It can be a less expensive way to adopt. The challenge is finding a birth mother with whom you can work directly.

In addition to being more affordable than adopting through an agency, private adoptions are usually more personal. In private adoptions, the birth mother often plays an important role in choosing the prospective adoptive parents. In this case, you will be able to meet with the birth mother, support her through the pregnancy and even be there at the birth of the baby if she wishes. On the other hand, sometimes the birth mother chooses to be as detached as possible – not because she doesn’t care, but usually to minimize the emotional drain of birthing a child and placing him or her in the care of another family.

Each adoption is different and unique, and we strive to tailor each plan individually to suit the adopting parents and birth mother. If you are interested in private adoption, please call The McKellar Law Firm, PLLC today at (865)566-0125 for a free consultation.
