In an Independent or Private Adoption, DCS or another Agency is typically not fully involved, except that the adoptive parents will have to be an Agency engaged to conduct a Home Study. The adoptive parents will have to have had physical custody of the child(ren) for the six (6) months prior to the finalization of the adoption. In these cases, the termination of the parental rights may have occurred previously and the adoptive parents move later to finalization of the adoption at a later date.
